This paper continues our work on the analysis and formalization of enterprise architecture frameworks, proposing a number of principles related to the construction and use of these frameworks. These principles are intended to guide the development of a formal foundation for frameworks. Enterprise architecture frameworks organize, manage, and interrelate the wide variety of models used to structure and operate an enterprise. The principles are drawn from analyses of a number of existing frameworks and from observation of and participation in framework development. Since these frameworks involve modeling, some of the principles apply to broader aspects of modeling; other principles apply only to frameworks. As the goal of this work is a requirements speci cation for formalization of frameworks, the paper ends with a sketch of how the identi ed principles might guide this formalization.
